How the Oxidizer Plus+ Works:
1. How are we getting rid of the smell?
2. Why are we reducing staining? H2S + 2 O2 > H2SO4 (lowers pH)
Elimination of "Smelly Water"
"Smelly rotten egg" water is created when hydrogen sulfide
gas is formed in water. Hydrogen sulfide is soluble up to 437 cm3/100cc
of 32 degrees F cold water and decreases it's solubility to 186
cm3/104 degrees F hot water. As the water warms up the hydrogen
sulfide is released into the air above the water with a characteristic
"rotten egg" smell.
The Oxidizer Plus+ aerates and oxygenates "smelly water"
by spraying water through a compressed bubble of air in an enclosed
tank. The spray increases water's surface area and enhances dissolving
of air (and oxygen). The increased surface area provides a medium
to enhanced oxygenation of hydrogen sulfide to sulfuric acid. These
compounds acidify water and lower the pH.
The water is collected at the bottom of the tank and drawn off by
a bottom feeding tube and exits the unit.
Reduction of Staining of Fixtures:
Sulfuric acid from above drives the reduction of fixture staining.
Ferrous oxide (FeO), ferric oxide (Fe2O3) and ferric oxide hydrate
(Fe2O3x H2O) are present in hard water. Ferrous oxide is typically
black. Ferric oxide is typically red-brown to black. Ferric oxide
hydrate is typically a red-brown amorphous powder or gel. All three
compounds are insoluble in cold and hot water.
All three chemicals will stain porcelain fixtures. All the chemicals
are soluble in acids. Ferric oxide is notably soluble in sulfuric
acid. The lowered pH (from sulfuric acid formation) increases the
solubility of these three chemicals and provides a "clearer"
solution which reduces water stain.
